Shenmue 3 becomes Kickstarter’s most funded video game, ever

Shenmue 3 has beaten Kickstarter’s record for the most funding received by a video game, surpassing Bloodstained’s previous record of $5,545,991.

If your initial thoughts were that Star Citizen is the most funded video game ever, you would be correct, however in terms of Kickstarter’s most funded, Star Citizen only managed to receive  $2,134,374 from just over 34,000,000 backers.

If the game manages to reach the $6 million mark, backers would unlock an advanced battle system which will be added to the game.

As well as being the most funded video game in Kickstarter’s history, Shenmue 3 also holds the record of being the fastest game to reach $1m funded, doing so in under two hours after its campaign launch. The game also hit $2m in just over 9 hours. In other words, Shenmue 3 has been a huge success!

There is currently 8 hours to go, with the total just shy of $5,750,000. Over 63,000 have backed Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue 3,

Shenmue 3 is due to release in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC.
