The Original Guilty Gear Is Coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC

Arc System Works have just announced that they’re re-releasing the original Guilty Gear on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. This is a celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

From Arc System Works’ Japanese press release (translated):

‘‘Arc System Works has decided to release Guilty Gear digitally on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

The Guilty Gear series has proven its existence as one of the defining points of 2D versus fighting games. This game is a port product of the first ever Guilty Gear, which appealed a lot of fans with a composition of an original gameplay system and a unique world setting.

This distinctive game presents battles with all-time high tensions, especially due to the Murder Outbreak system that can settle fights with a single blow. You will be able to enjoy Guilty Gear, the starting point of the series, on the newest hardware. For the latest information on this game, please wait for more news in the future!’’

The original Guilty Gear launched in 1998 for the PlayStation 1. The fast-paced 2D fighter quickly became known for its anime-style graphics, along with its unique gameplay and metal soundtrack. The standard cast features 10 playable characters: Sol Badguy, Axl Low, Chipp Zanuff, Dr. Baldhead, Kliff Undersn, Ky Kiske, May, Millia Rage, Potemkin and Zato-1. Three hidden characters are unlockable by beating the game with either Sol or Ky under certain conditions.

Arc System Works created other popular 2D fighting series, such as BlazBlue and the recently developed fellow anime-style fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ.

The release date for the original Guilty Gear title on the specified platforms hasn’t been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for more updates.
