The Witcher Is Coming to Netflix

No one can argue that Game of Thrones is one of the, if not the most, popular show on TV. The adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire has captured the attention of the world and has brought the high fantasy genre back to mainstream popularity. Due to this success, streaming giant Netflix is set to adapt a high fantasy novel series of their own. Some of you may have heard of this series, as it has also been adapted into one of the most beloved modern franchises in the video game world. I am. of course, referring to The Witcher.

Netflix has announced they have commissioned an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s series. The CD Projekt Red games will not be used as any source material. Sapkowski will also be on board as a creative consultant on the series:

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing…I’m excited about our efforts together.”

Netflix has not announced any details yet as to how the series will work in terms of story or structure. The Executive Producers for the project, Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, who both worked on the adaptation of The Expanse, have said:

“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

Netflix appears to be onto a winner here, the streaming service already boasts a huge number of subscribers, and they could be set for even more.
