Recruiting soldiers in Steel and Flesh 2 is not as easy as reciting the English alphabets.
For example, recruiting volunteers is not the best choice if you’ve made up your mind to win a battle; that’s unless you are just starting out in the game and need to get a few coins before you can afford formidable soldiers. Making recruits in Steel and Flesh 2 depends on your playstyle. If you love launching ranged attacks, then recruiting more trained or expert arrow users would be a good choice. When it comes to close-range, then getting more trained and expert swordsmen and spear users should be the priority.
You must be wondering, “Why didn’t this guy just say swordsmen without the trained or expert attached to it?”. That’s because using soldiers that ain’t so skillful and don’t have armor isn’t the best practice and wouldn’t grant you any upper hand in battles, unlike the trained ones and experts.
I didn’t mention elite soldiers because they are more expensive and need you to reach a certain level before you can buy them, but getting them into your team is a great advantage, especially when there are many of them in your team.
So simply, when recruiting soldiers, you should remember to choose according to what fits your playstyle. And recruit the stronger guys, although they are more expensive, but it’s worth the cost.
To recruit, you go to a city or town of your choice (as long as you are in peace with them), choose “Recruit” and then buy the soldiers you want. You can also click on “Volunteers”, which is just a list of volunteers that are willing to join you and your team. Know that volunteers are weak since they have blunt weapons and zero armor on them. Recruit them only if you do not have enough coins to buy strong soldiers, or if you just want to fill in the space in your army.
You could get coins by selling the foodstuffs you get by fishing and hunting. You can also get coins by selling the resources you get from the barns, poultries and others that you opened. You could use the coins to recruit soldiers.
Making Upgrades
Upgrading your skills in Steel and Flesh is a tricky part because all skills contribute to your gameplay. But when it comes to skills that contribute to your success in battles, in my opinion, Leadership takes first place.
You can’t win a battle with few soldiers on your side. You have to have a lot of soldiers before you can at least have an advantage in some battles. Upgrading your leadership means increasing the maximum number of soldiers you can have with you.
When you have a few soldiers with you and you’ve reached your maximum limit, I recommend going against small villages with few soldiers defending them. But be careful about the villages you go up against because you simply are starting a war with the village’s country. Only go up against villages in countries with few cities or in countries where you are ready to face the consequences.
Upgrading skills like your speed on the map is also helpful because you can avoid unnecessary encounters with enemies by outrunning them. Upgrading skills like your weapon handling, attack, defence, siege building and stuff like that also helps in battles.
Preparing For Battles
“Prepare for battle!”, the guy in the front lines of the battle arena screamed. There’s tense music coming from the back seats, and the drums are beating so fast and rapidly. The soldiers are sharpening their blades and warming up…
Okay, that doesn’t happen in Steel and Flesh 2, but preparing for battle in most RPGs has to do with upgrading your weapons, repairing your armor and other stuff. And that’s exactly what you should do before a battle. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be prepared for a battle until a few minutes beforehand. Just be prepared to avoid last-minute preparations done in a hurry.
Upgrade your weapons, change your armor to a better one or repair it, get more great soldiers to replace the dead ones or injured ones. Buy some cannons that’ll help you against enemies, buy many cannonballs to use with the cannons and stuff like that.
In a nutshell, just do the necessary things that make you ready for battle.
Battling
Finally, the battle itself.
To win battles effectively, all you’ve got to do is plan a winning strategy. Get your soldiers to arrange themselves in a specific order, let the soldiers on foot take the lead, and then the horsemen behind them, then the arrow guys and the cannon guys behind.
Attack with a touch of wisdom, take it nice and slow, and make sure your avatar doesn’t get killed. Attack some enemies by yourself and don’t always rely on your soldiers. Riding a horse is a plus. It gives you a little advantage over your enemies because it makes you faster.
Get your arrow men to take down the guys on the city walls defending the city while the close -range soldiers wait around, then when most of them are down, send your soldiers to break down the gate, but beware of hot oil and some other traps used by the enemies.
When you get in, go all out on ’em. Don’t let a single one of them continue breathing. Get your soldiers to attack in groups since teamwork lets them survive longer in battles.
When you’re done taking out every single one of them, shout out victoriously, you just won a battle! Then wait for your injured soldiers to heal over time or heal them with coins before going into battle again.
That’s pretty much all there is to winning battles in Steel and Flesh 2. Follow this formula and you’ll be the most feared king that even insane countries with many cities and soldiers in the game fear.
Bye, and see you all in another post!
