November 2020 Humble Choice Includes Yakuza Kiwami 2, Darksiders III, Imperator: Rome and More

The November 2020 Humble Choice has arrived for PC, and it’s a big one this month! The headliners are Yakuza Kiwami 2, Darksiders III, and Imperator: Rome.

Don’t sleep on the other offerings though, which include Crying Suns, Darksburg, Little Misfortune, Smile for Me, Darkwood, Tsioque, Rover Mechanic Simulator, Youropa and Townsm- A Kingdom Rebuilt.

Humble advertise all that at a whopping total of $303 worth of Steam games in one bundle (or £214.99/$283.72 at current Steam prices), though your value for money will depend on your Humble Choice tier package.

For the uninitiated, Humble Choice is a unique offering from the Humble Bundle store that provides a monthly list of 12 available games. The number of games that can be picked up as part of the subscription is based on how much you choose to pay. The Basic tier costs $14.99/£11.99 per month, or $134.99/£104.99 per year, and grants access to 3 games of your choosing each month.

The Premium+ tier usually costs $19.99/£15.99 per month or $179.99/£142.99 per year and grants access to 9 games of your choosing each month, but for the fourth month in a row is reduced to just £9.66/$10.67 and grants all 12 of the games listed above!

There is an additional Lite tier that costs $4.99/£3.99 per month, or $44.99/£35.99 per year, but this tier only grants access to the Humble Trove, a selection of DRM-free games that can be played only whilst your subscription remains active.

Lite and Basic tiers also grant 10% discounts in the Humble Store, whilst Premium+ includes 20% discounts.

The games offered in Humble Choice are redeemable on Steam via CD key or giftable to a friend and are yours to keep— regardless of whether you stay subscribed to Humble Choice or not. Humble Choice allows you to purchase the bundle at any time during the month to gain access to the games that you select.

If you’re signed up and looking for suggestions, Gaming Respawn, as always, has you covered:

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is the biggest headliner in this month’s lineup and actually the third game in the series (after Yazuka 0 and Yakuza Kiwami 1, which featured in previous Humble line-ups.) Kiwami 2 is the remake of the excellent second game in the PlayStation 2 franchise and sets players in the boots of Kazuma Kiryu in the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Osaka. The huge neon worlds of Yakuza’s Japan are predictably violent and perhaps less-predictably wacky, featuring dense combat systems and also…karaoke? In our review we gave it an 8/10 and called it “a great update of a PS2 classic [that] will hopefully bring the series to a whole new audience.”

Darksiders III continues the journey of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, this time letting players take on the role of Fury, sister to the two protagonists from the previous games. Where the original games best resembled a Zelda/Devil May Cry mash-up, Darksiders III takes notes from the Soulsborne genre, and the familiar Metroidvania gameplay returns alongside the Bible-bashing war between angels, demons and everything in between. In our review, we gave it an 8/10 and said it is “a worthy sequel that you should try out at some point, especially if you liked the previous games.” Now’s your chance!

If those third-person action games aren’t your bag, Imperator: Rome is an entirely different Roman copper pot of fish. A sprawling grand strategy game from the creators of Crusader Kings and a successor to Europa Universalis: Rome, Imperator puts you in the boots of rulers like Julius Caesar to steer Rome through 304 BCE to 27 BCE. Our reviewer struggled with its difficulty and gave it a 5/10 but conceded that “Imperator: Rome is a game I would recommend to seasoned strategy game players.“ So, if you get warm and fuzzy at the sound of words like diverse populations, military traditions, and provincial improvements, then Imperator: Rome may be for you.

It’s a month of great names in this month’s bundle, but the one I most want to shout out is Crying Suns. This roguelite tactics game takes the format that made FTL: Faster Than Light unique, and it adds and improves on it with a deep science fiction story about time travel, cloning, and the end of all life as we know it. It also adds grid-based tactical space combat, ground excursions, unique commander units, procedurally generated story encounters and a gorgeous pixel-based art style. In case you hadn’t guessed, it’s a title we recommend.

Elsewhere, Darksburg is a co-op roguelite set in a medieval city overwhelmed by undead forces, Little Misfortune is a charming-but-also-disturbing interactive story about a girl seeking eternal happiness, Darkwood is an isometric survival horror, and Townsmen is a medieval city-builder in the ilk of The Settlers.

Whatever you choose to pick, Humble Choice continues to offer great value in PC gaming and, unlike many of its contemporaries, actually lets you own and keep the games you receive — and Gaming Respawn is here to help you get the lowdown!
