As we reported earlier this week, Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai hosted a special presentation revealing and announcing the fifth DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The character is Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ silent protagonist, Byleth, which has come to the surprise of many fans after months of speculation.
Byleth uses a range of weapons found in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and is the eighth character from the Fire Emblem franchise to join the Super Smash Bros. series. The reaction to the character’s reveal has been met with mixed reception. While many Fire Emblem fans have been overjoyed to see the protagonist make their way into Super Smash Bros., many are underwhelmed that Nintendo has decided to use a character from a franchise already represented in Super Smash Bros. instead of a new series joining the roster.
However, Masahiro Sakurai also took time during the presentation to officially announce the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass 2, another season pass that will include six new fighters. The Fighters Pass 2 will be available to purchase next week along with Byleth and a set of Mii costumes, including one based on Ubisoft’s Rabbids franchise, another based off Altair from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed and one modeled after MDHR’s Cuphead, featuring the game’s ‘Floral Fury’ music track, similar to the Sans costume released in 2019.
Byleth, along with the Fighters Pass 2 and new Mii costumes, will be available to purchase on January 28th, 2020.
