Nintendo Direct Recap

On November 12th, Nintendo had its first Nintendo Direct since the passing of Satoru Iwata. The Direct had a lot of good Nintendo news so I will compile as much as I can in one article. Eventually, I will go into more details on specific titles on their own articles. This recap focuses on the North American Nintendo Direct so games and release dates may vary. Below is the actual Direct but you may skip watching it and jump to the news, directly!


Wii U

  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will arrive on March 4th, 2016. A wolf Link amiibo was announced for the game.
  • The Legend of Zelda Wii U (name not final) is a Wii U game and will arrive in 2016 in time for the 30th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda.
  • Pokkén Tournament launches in 2016 with a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card included in the first run of the game.
  • Star Fox Zero, after having been delayed, now has an April 22nd release date.
  • A Splatoon update was scheduled yesterday and another came today. New gear and a map were added and plans were revealed to keep updates coming until January.
  • In December, a new Web portal will offer a more robust search function to find and filter levels in Super Mario Maker across a variety of Web-enabled devices.
  • Those who buy the physical copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X will have the option to download 4 high-speed data loading packs for free that will improve the overall experience load times in the game.
  • Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII was announced to be joining the Super Smash Bros. roster.


  • Pokémon Red Version,Pokémon Blue Version and Pokémon Yellow Version – are coming to the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 27
  • Hyrule Warriors: Legends releases  on March 25th, 2016. The new character, Linkle, was announced during the Direct.
  • Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam has a Jan. 22 release date. The game will have amiibo compatibility.
  • Fire Emblem Fates will give you the option to buy the game you want and then download the other for half the price. A new game, titled Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation is a game for players that want an extra challenge and an alternate story than the other two games. A special edition bundle was announced that includes all three games, an artbook, and a 3DS pouch. The bundle will retail at $79.99.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes will recieve free DLC coming on Dec. 2, adding Linebeck’s Uniform and Fierce Deity Armor outfits, each with unique powers, as well as the new Den of Trials with more than 30 stages to conquer.
  • DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past and DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, both remastered for Nintendo 3DS are coming in 2016.
