PS4 Slim Supports 5GHz WiFi, Faster Than What Current PS4 Offers

According to a gamer who managed to grab a PS4 Slim early, the console will include support for 5GHz WiFi connections. The current PS4 console only has support for 2.4GHz WiFi connections

For those who use WiFi, using a 5GHz frequency comes with some advantages over the lower 2.4GHz frequency, especially when it comes to gaming. A 5GHz connection allows data to be sent at a faster rate compared to a 2.4GHz connection and has less interference making it more stable. However, as a result of having faster data rates, devices have to be closer to the router unlike the 2.4GHz frequency which covers larger distances but offers a slower speed. If you want the best possible connection however, your best bet is to use an ethernet cable to connect your console and modem together.

In short, 5GHz offers faster data rates at a shorter range whereas 2.4GHz offers slower data rates but at further ranges, so what frequency is best for you depends on your internet connection and where your console is situated in your house in relation to your router. Most modern routers these days support 5GHz connections so it was a bit of a surprise that the PS4 didn’t support it when it launched.

The gamer who has brought to attention the PS4 Slim’s support for 5GHz connections was Twitter user Shortman82, who shared several pictures as proof, for those of you who still doubt it.

Although still yet to be officially announced by Sony, a number of PS4 slim consoles have managed to make their way to market with various consoles appearing for sale on eBay and UK retailer CEX.

The PS4 Slim is expected to be announced alongside the PS4 Neo by Sony next week.

What’s funny is that Xbox one had this from day 1. Wonder why the author didnt mention that.
Hilarious that the chimps now need the hideous ps4 slim to get this.

Whatever point you’re trying to make about me is non-existent as I own an Xbox One and not a PlayStation 4. The reason I didn’t mention it is because its not relevant to the story, this is about the PS4 Slim having something the original PS4 doesn’t.

It’s great the Xbox One supported it, but by mentioning it, I think we all know what kind of people would jump all over me.

Frankly, I can’t win either way can I?

Win by stating the facts…like most other articles they compare the 2 platforms. The media bias towards ps4 is obvious to anyone with half a brain….at this point most gamers find the gaming media a complete Fing joke.

So you say I should compare both platforms like most of the other articles, implying that I should go with the flow, yet state that the gaming media is a joke?

I don’t really get what more you want me to do? How is this article even bias? I am an Xbox gamer, not a PS4 one so how or why would I be bias?
