Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz Remake Confirmed for Switch, PS4, and Steam

Update: Nintendo of America has confirmed that the title is coming to the West on October 29th as Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD for Switch. The Amazon pre-order is up for $39.99.

A Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz remake has been announced for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Steam. The game has only been announced for Japan—console release on October 31st—but it would be surprising if it doesn’t come to the West. The most recent issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals that the 2006 Wii remake is titled Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball.

A new Super Monkey Ball game has been rumored for a couple of weeks now, with people finding trademarks in multiple countries for Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball. The confirmation is nice, but the return of the franchise seemed all but inevitable given the evidence.

The Weekly Famitsu contains an interview with Super Monkey Ball creator Ryu Ga Gotoko, Studio Head, Toshihiro Nagoshi and the producer and director of the upcoming title, Masao Shirosaki. The feature also appears to cover more details and mini-games.

The choice to remake Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and not the original first two titles may come as a surprise to some fans. Banana Blitz had somewhat of a mixed reception with fans due to the controversial motion controls. The return of Super Monkey Ball, with the iconic modes of Monkey Target and Monkey Race, has been long awaited. Banana Blitz is a good start, but here’s to hoping we can eventually get a Super Monkey Ball: Deluxe remake.
