Nioh Respawn: Blade of the Noob- Part 5

Are you a gamer who has an interest in playing a Souls-Type game but have avoided trying one for fear of getting your virtual ass handed to you over and over, leading to you rage quitting and questioning why you play games to begin with? I’ve been there. But what if I told you that playing and beating a Souls-Type game is not the impossible task that you may have been led to believe it is? Join me as I share my experiences and gameplay footage of the many boss battles I fought my way through in Nioh; you might even learn a thing or two, like how to properly beat some of these bosses after seeing them smack me around a bit. Welcome to Nioh Respawn: Blade of the Noob, and enjoy yourselves.

Boss #13: Giant Toad

Remember in my previous entry on the White Tiger boss battle where I mentioned that there were considerably tougher bosses that I would be dealing with later on? Well, here’s one of them: the Giant Toad. I saw brief gameplay footage of the Giant Toad before Nioh was released, and I had this strong feeling that he was going to be an annoying boss; and I was right. I absolutely hated this wart-covered piece of shit. Just take a look at how poorly I did in my first encounter with him.

That was shameful. It was also a mere taste of things to come. The Giant Toad battle was sort of a turning point for me in that it showed me that I still had much to learn with regards to reading my opponents’ movements, reacting quickly, and making proper use of my skills, such as the Ki Pulse. This fatass was not only big and quick, but his reach with that huge spear of his was NUTS! Just remembering (and watching) my encounters with him puts me in a bad mood, so I will end this now by sharing my final attempt against him below. Took me about 8 or 9 attempts to beat this guy, by the way. Grrrrrr.

Boss #14: Ogress

Like with the Giant Toad, I saw brief gameplay footage of this boss, the Ogress, before Nioh released, and this is another boss that I feared would be a huge pain in the ass. Well, it seems my time with the Giant Toad, as ball-bustingly frustrating as it was, ended up being a useful form of combat training for yours truly, because I was able to take down the Ogress in one go. Furthermore, I didn’t have too difficult of a time with her either. That’s not to say she didn’t provide any challenge whatsoever, in fact, she managed to smack me around a fair bit before I killed her. Still, I did do a better job than usual at reading my opponent’s movements and avoiding her attacks (except for that damn jumping slam attack she managed to hit me with a few times). After having a rather rough time with the last few bosses I had dealt with, it was nice to be able to defeat this boss in one go and tell myself that I didn’t suck quite that badly at this game after all.

Boss #15: Honda Tadakatsu

My next battle against a human warrior, Honda Tadakatsu. I was determined not to get shown up by this one. But it turns out this guy was also pretty damn tough, and he surprised me with his cheap-ass spear thrust attacks that he was able to hit me with from clear across the fighting arena. Fortunately, I was able to figure out how to deal with them and deal some decent damage on Honda, but then I noticed that his health was regenerating like crazy thanks to the corrupted Amrita crystals on either end of the arena. Any damage I was doing was negated almost immediately. Naturally, I had to destroy those things, or else I would have no chance of beating this big jerk. As you will see below, I wasn’t entirely successful in my first attempt.

Now in my second attempt, I have better luck. Much better luck. In fact, as you will see in this next video below, it doesn’t require too much effort at all to defeat this boss.

While I wasn’t complaining about being able to get this latest boss out of the way with relatively minimal effort, I was also left feeling rather unsatisfied. My more prideful side wanted to know if I would have been able to defeat Honda Tadakatsu in a fair one-on-one duel without any interference from outside influences like those damn corrupted Amrita crystals. Part of me was hoping for a rematch against this guy, but would I ever get one? Guess you’ll have to keep watching/reading my feature to find out. Join us again next Friday!
