EA Games Return to Steam on PC

EA has returned to Steam en masse. On 4th June, a large batch of Electronic Arts games finally debuted on Steam, with more promised to follow. This includes a number of games that have never been available in Valve’s storefront before now, previously being EA Origin exclusives.

The games include entries in franchises such as Dragon Age, Mirror’s Edge, Need for Speed, Crysis, and Unravel. See a full list of debuting or returning games below.

This follows an announcement in October 2019 from EA about a partnership with Valve and the simultaneous release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on Steam and EA Origin. In 2011, EA pulled its new game releases from the Steam platform in favour of exclusive releases on Origin. Its return to Steam is a cause for celebration for many PC gamers now finally able to return EA games to their libraries. However, the maligned Origin Launcher will still be required to play the games through Steam, much like Jedi Fallen Order last year.

Notably absent from EA’s Steam page are its franchises with online components— Apex Legends, Battlefield, Star Wars: Battlefront, FIFA, Anthem and The Sims 4. In its October 2019 statement, Electronic Arts confirmed these franchises will return to Steam at some later date in 2020. They also confirmed cross-play between both PC platforms.

EA has also confirmed that its EA Access subscription is “coming soon to Steam.” No date is provided, but advertising banners adorn its sale and publisher pages on the Steam platform.
