Nintendo Direct – News Recap

Here’s a quick breakdown of all the news that came out of the latest Nintendo Direct:

Switch News

  • Nintendo showed off some more Super Mario Odyssey gameplay and announced that a new Super Mario Odyssey Switch bundle was revealed. The bundle includes the game, a pair of red Joycons and a Super Mario Odyssey-themed Switch carrying case. Nintendo also revealed some new Super Mario Odyssey-themed amiibo. The new Switch bundle and amiibo will be released on the same day as Super Mario Odyssey, which is October 27th.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 finally has a release date. The RPG is coming to Nintendo Switch in the west on December 1st of this year.

Splatoon 2 adds a new map on September 15th, with a new map and weapon coming soon.

Not only did we get a release date for Skyrim for the Switch (November 27th), Nintendo also announced that two more Bethesda games are also coming to Switch: Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Doom will be released before the end of the year, while Wolfenstein II fans will have to wait until 2018.

Arms owners can grab an update for the game that introduces a new fighter named Lola Popand and the ability to remap the controls.

Nintendo Arcade Archives begins today with Super Mario Bros.

The new Kirby game on Switch will be called Kirby: Star Allies. Teased at this year’s E3, the game features single-player gameplay with three AI or three friends mixing powers to create other abilities, much like Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards on Nintendo 64. Kirby: Star Allies will release on Nintendo Switch in 2018.

3DS News

Sticking with Kirby, Kirby: Battle Royale is coming to 3DS on November 3rd. Battle Royale seems to be a cuddly and cute version of Fight Club. In this title, Kirby enters a tournament to face-off against his toughest rival yet – himself! Players will use different abilities to battle foes. The game will feature both single-player and multiplayer friend’s modes, as well a story and online mode.

The game that’s taken the world by storm, Minecraft, is now on 3DS (is there anything you can’t play Minecraft on now?). The game is available to download from the eShop right now. A physical edition has also been announced and will be coming at a later date.

Nintendo announced a Pokemon-themed new Nintendo 2DS XL. The red and white 2DS XL looks like a Pokeball…..colour-wise, anyway. The Pokemon New 2DS XL will release November 3rd.

3DS owners get an RPG demo of their own, this one for Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth.

A Mario Party game is coming to 3DS. Not so much a new game but rather a greatest hits. The game will feature a collection of the 100 best mini-games from all 10 Mario Party games on home consoles. Mario Party: The Top 100 is out November 10th.
