Nintendo are really trying to appeal to our sentiment, aren’t they? Last year, we had the NES Classic, this year it is the turn of arguably the most fondly remembered console (for yours-truly, anyway) when the SNES Classic is released at the end of September.
If you fancy some more ‘retro’ gear from Nintendo, well they have announced an SNES-themed 3DSXL will be launching a few weeks after the SNES Classic.

To give it its full title, the New Nintendo 3DS XL Super Nintendo Entertainment System Edition will be available from the 13th October. It looks great with a vinyl of the power and reset buttons on the back of the handheld. It also features the multi-coloured buttons from the SNES which originally just featured on the smaller 3DS. If I didn’t already own 3DS, I would probably go for this version, but this really seems like a console aimed more at collectors, or have Nintendo cleverly given us a second option to the SNES Classic?
With the SNES Classic pre-orders selling out in no time at all, this new 3DSXL could be a great way for players to enjoy some SNES titles. There is a decent selection of SNES games available on Nintendo’s eShop to download, so if you can’t get hold of an SNES Classic, perhaps this is the next best thing?
