It’s been a rough 12 months for No Man’s Sky, that’s for sure; however, the future may be looking a little brighter thanks to the game’s latest update that is being rolled out today to mark No Man’s Sky’s one year anniversary.
The No Man’s Sky Atlas Rises 1.3 Update is one large patch that adds a lot of much needed content to the game, including an impressive 30-hour story campaign, procedurally generated missions, trade improvements, system economies, and of course, multiplayer.
Hello Games has released the full patch notes which will see the update make its way onto PlayStation 4 and PC. There’s some pretty nice additions coming to the game which will definitely make some players give No Man’s Sky a second chance.
The new story campaign will bring a new context and quest system to No Man’s Sky with double the lore and interactions being added to the game. In the Atlas Rises update, the story takes place when the fabric of existence is starting to falter with a mysterious new interdimensional race appearing.
With regards to multiplayer, this first iteration is more limited compared to what is planned for the future. Following this update, 16 players will be able to see each other in the same universe thanks to “glitches in the simulation” that have begun to appear, although players will be shown as glowing orbs rather than their actual avatars. Players will be able to communicate with each other though via VOIP when they are in close proximity with each other.
This is just the beginning for multiplayer for No Man’s Sky, with Hello Games stating that their goal is to have a “world of synchronous co-op.”
