Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has sold three times more copies on PS4 than Xbox One

Since releasing worldwide on September 1st, sales figures have shown that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has sold over three times as many copies on PlayStation 4 than on the Xbox One in the first week of being on sale.

According to GfK Chart Track, 72% of all physical copies of the game were sold on PS4. Xbox One physical sales only accounted for 22% of sales, with last-gens PS3 and Xbox 360 taking 3% and 2% respectively.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain reached No 1 in the video games as a result of its successful launch, however in its opening week, sales are less than what The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight managed with their opening week. No official sales figures have been revealed by Konami as of yet, but according to Ads which have appeared on several Japanese websites, Konami’s game has shipped over three million copies.

The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight remain the fastest selling games of 2015 so far.

Since the ad is in Japanese, here is a translation from Dual Shockers who state that the ad reads: “Cumulative worldwide shipments: three million copies breakthrough.”
