Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Takes Top Spot as the UK’s Christmas No.1

Say what you will about the Call of Duty franchise, there’s no getting away from the fact that it is still one of the most successful and lucrative gaming franchises around as highlighted by the impressive sales performance of Infinite Warfare which has led to the game becoming the UK’s Christmas No.1.

The Call of Duty franchise has a long record of being No.1 at Christmas, with Infinite Warfare being the seventh title to be able to claim that accolade and follow in the footsteps of last year’s game, Black Ops III, which also sat as the UK’s Christmas No.1 last year.

Infinite Warfare beat the likes of FIFA 17 and Battlefield 1 to the crown with its position at the top of the pile never seemingly being in doubt, according to ChartTrack. FIFA 17 came in at second place, with EA’s Battlefield 1 entering Christmas in third, despite being better received on the whole than Infinite Warfare. Ubisoft’s open-world hacking game, Watch Dogs 2, finished in fourth.

Elsewhere in the charts, Final Fantasy XV dropped two places, sliding from fourth to sixth. The Skyrim Special Edition gained two spots which saw it move up to seventh, with Dishonored 2 also making gains coming in at 8th.

Steep and Mafia III complete the top 10, although there was no room for Dead Rising 4 and The Last Guardian which were Xbox One and PS4 exclusives, respectively. Dead Rising 4 dropped to 18th, with The Last Guardian falling to 20th.

Here’s the Top 10 in fall for the week ending December 17th.

  1. CALL OF DUTY: INFINITE WARFARE
  2. FIFA 17
  3. BATTLEFIELD 1
  4. WATCH DOGS 2
  5. GRAND THEFT AUTO V
  6. FINAL FANTASY XV
  7. THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM SPECIAL ED.
