During the month of October, more Xbox One consoles were sold than PS4 consoles in the UK, GamesIndustry has revealed.
Xbox One shifted 25,000 units more than PS4 for October with overall sales for Xbox One sitting at just under 100k at 99,496. That means that PS4 sales for last month stand at roughly 75,000 units. Xbox One sales accounted for 56% of total console sales in the UK with PS4 taking a 42% share. The Nintendo Wii U only claimed 2% of the console market share in October.
Microsoft will be pleased by the Xbox One’s strong sales performance in the UK which has seen the Xbox One outsell PS4 for the past two months, albeit by a margin of just 1,500 units for September. The launch of Xbox One S has undoubtedly helped Microsoft edge in front, but they will have a tough job staying ahead in November which sees Sony launch the PS4 Pro.
Speaking about the Xbox One’s success in the UK, Xbox UK Marketing Director Harvey Eagle said, “Thanks to our fans, Xbox One was the best-selling console in October, the second month in a row in the UK, according to GfK Entertainment.”
“It’s great to see such enthusiasm for the new Xbox One S range of consoles including FIFA 17, Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1, and now – for the first time – Minecraft. All of which are available to purchase now.”
