Minecraft Has Sold Over 100 Million Copies Worldwide

It was only a matter of time until Minecraft hit the milestone of selling 100 million copies worldwide. Well, that day has finally arrived. In fact, that figure has been surprassed by a cool six million copies with the current total number of copies sold standing at over 106 million across all platforms.

According to Mojang, if every person who purchased a copy of Minecraft formed a nation, they would come together to form the 12th most populous country in the world, with Japan, Mexico, and Russia next in Mojang’s sights. It does seem unlikely though that Minecraft will be able to get anywhere near China who have a population in excess of 1.3 billion people. Unfortunately, Minecraft isn’t popular enough to be purchased by one in seven of the world’s population! Having said that, four copies of the game have been sold to Antarctica. Who would have guessed?

If you liked that stat though, here’s another one. Since the start of 2016, 53,000 copies of Minecraft have been sold each day across all platforms. Not bad, right, considering the game released in 2011?

“We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to every one of you who’s bought Minecraft over the past few years, no matter which platform you play on,” Mojang said in a post on its website. “We’re constantly in awe of our community and the amazing things you achieve together. You really are the best. <3”
