Red Dead Redemption 2’s World Will Be a “Big, Sprawling, Optimistic View of America”

Red Dead Redemption 2 will offer a “big, sprawling, optimistic view of America”, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

Speaking at an MKM Parnters Event, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2‘s trailer picked up more views than the company had expected and that “anticipation is enormous” for the open-world western. In Zelnick’s words, the reaction to Red Dead Redemption 2 has left the company feeling “not shocked” but “very pleased.”

Zelnick added that now was the right time to feature an America that was big, sprawling, and optimistic. Not only that, but he also believes that the timing is right for Red Dead Redemption 2 to succeed just as Red Dead Redemption did when it released back in 2010.

“We took a different point of view, which is that very occasionally westerns capture the imagination of the public,” Zelnick said. “When we launched Red Dead, it did. And those times were right for that. And I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again–and that’s not meant to be cute.”

We still don’t know much about Red Dead Redemption 2 or its story, but Strauss Zelnick promised that the story will offer “incredible emotional depth”.

“You can expect there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled to release towards the end of 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One.
