Uncharted 5 could happen after Uncharted 4 if another developer works on the game

It’s no secret that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be the last game in the Uncharted series developed by Naughty Dog. The studio has also claimed that it would be the last game featuring Nathan Drake as the lead role. So where does that leave the future of the Uncharted franchise?

Uncharted 4 is still several weeks away from release and Naughty Dog are already committed to the game for sometime afterwards with DLC and updates already in the pipeline. Once all content for the game has been wrapped up, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has previously stated that their focus will return to The Last of Us 2.

According to Creative Director Neil Drucmann, there could be an Uncharted 5 in the future, although it would only happen if another developer was to work on the game as Naughty Dog are happy to call it a day when it comes to developing anymore Uncharted games after Uncharted 4. Not only that, but it would have to be done right and ultimately, be good enough to follow in the footsteps of Naughty Dog’s previous entries.

Speaking to Gamesradar, Neil Druckmann revealed that he would be excited if someone else made an Uncharted game and that it would be fun to play a game that he didn’t work on. However, he confirmed that Naughty Dog would still be involved in the development of the game to some degree to make sure that the developer got the “essence of it right”.

“If they made a great game I’d be excited,” he says. “I’d want to play an Uncharted I didn’t work on. It’d be a lot of fun.” A new Uncharted wouldn’t exist completely without Naughty Dog though: “Obviously we would have a big part in it as the creators of the franchise,” said Druckmann. “We’d just want to make sure they get the essence of it right.”

If Naughty Dog aren’t able to find the right studio though, they will be happy to leave Uncharted 4 as the last game in the franchise.

“If there’s a studio that can do that then great. If not then it’s okay that this is the last one.”
