After searching around for a new headset and after months of using just headphones as my go-to headset, I kindly received the Gioteck™ TX5+ RG Gaming Headset
When looking at the overall gaming headset market, this is on the higher end of the super budget-friendly range. From minute one, I felt the TX5+ RGB Gaming Headset was done to the highest standard within this price point.
You will need to give the headset a quick charge with the included charging cable to ensure you get the maximum use out of it, but it is a standard USB-C cable, so nothing out of the ordinary. Once it was all charged up, I thought I would load up a game that would show off the headset’s capabilities, and that game was The Last of Us Part II.
Once the headset went on, I pushed the button for the noise cancelling and thought to kick on with the game. I asked my partner to talk at various levels behind me to see what level of talking the headset cancels out. While it does effectively cancel out a standard volume of conversation, the second her voice went even a decibel level higher than a normal conversation, I could hear it. I was unable to test to see how well the headset worked when others were in the room as we didn’t have any visitors during the review period.
The other important feature of any headset is how good the game sounds while you have it on. Initially, when I left the game sound at the same level I would when playing without a headset, it was relatively quiet, even when gaming on my own in an empty room. When I did get the volume right, the headset did really capture the game well, and I would definitely say it did a good job.
Then, it comes to the microphone attached to the headset. I could use this feature best in my almost daily Pro Clubs party on EA Sports FC with my group of mates. I could hear each party member clearly, and at no point did I hear any crackly voices or people being quiet. However, I had multiple instances when my other party members could not hear me. Whether this was an accidental push of the mute button on my controller or the headphones, I don’t know. If this is down to the headset, then this is concerning as I am unaware at what point I went on mute.
I think the last point I need to discuss when reviewing a budget-friendly headset is how comfortable it is to wear for long periods of time. At the longest point of wear, I wore these headphones for between 2 and 3 hours, and at no point did I have any discomfort when wearing them. The other neat little touch this headset has over other budget options is the cool LED lights that come on and can really light up a room, if you excuse the pun.
Overall, I found the Gioteck™ TX5+ RGB Gaming Headset to be a really solid headset that may have its shortcomings, but when you think about the price point and what it would cost to get a headset that would really be top of its class in all departments, this headset is definitely worth it. Just make sure if you do intend on buying this headset that you test it with your group every so often that they can actually hear you, as you could end up like me telling a full story before realising no one actually heard it.
