StudioMDHR gives its first look at the upcoming DLC for their hit 2017 game, Cuphead. Titled “The Delicious Last Course”, it is set to release on all platforms in 2020.
The DLC expansion was announced back in June of 2018 and was originally slated to be released in 2019. Studio MDHR has already demonstrated that they can deliver a stellar game given time, and the DLC should certainly be more than worth the wait.
Studio heads Chad and Jared Moldenhauer released a small post saying that their highest priority was to make a quality product while also having their team have healthy working conditions.
The DLC will include a new playable character, Ms. Chalice, with a different moveset and some brand new abilities – one of these being a double jump. It will also include a whole new quest with challenging bosses to take on. The teaser trailer shows off a couple of the new bosses and gameplay of Ms. Chalice.
Cuphead most recently made its way onto the Nintendo Switch back in April of this year; a surprising addition as it started off as a Microsoft exclusive. The game was praised for its unique, 1930s cartoon inspired, hand-drawn art direction, soundtrack, and unapologetically difficult boss fights. It was nominated for five game awards in 2017, winning Debut Indie Game, Art Direction, and Independent Game.
It’s always a bummer to hear content being pushed, back but at the same time, it’s refreshing to hear a studio pushing back a release date for the health of their team.
