Rainbow Six: Siege is still performing strongly for Ubisoft, and its player base is showing no signs of declining despite the game releasing back in 2015. With the next-generation of consoles just around the corner though, Ubisoft is considering their next move for the game, and that looks like a re-release of Rainbow Six: Siege on next-gen consoles.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Rainbow Six Brand Director Alexandre Remy stated that the studio is keen on the idea of bringing Siege to the next-generation and utilising the benefits that will bring, although they are concerned about splitting the game across different platforms. He did, however, seem to rule out the possibility of the game getting a sequel.
“We don’t want a sequel whatsoever,” Remy stated.
“The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms. In an ideal world tomorrow, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit.
Remy went on to state that backwards compatibility is also an option that Ubisoft were considering. Instead of releasing a next-gen version of Rainbow Six: Siege, next-generation players would be able to play Siege with players still on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One through backwards compatibility.
