Ever since Activision released a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans of the franchise have been calling for the company to also remaster Modern Warfare 2. Rumours about a possible remaster have pretty much circulated every year, but until now there’s been nothing concrete to suggest that we will actually be getting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.
However, that may be about to change as a rating has been spotted for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered by the Pan European Game Information (PEGI). The 18 rating provided by PEGI was listed as being for the campaign only, with the PlayStation 4 being the only platform listed.
Given timed-exclusivity deals Sony have signed for previous Call of Duty games, it wouldn’t be that surprising to see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered heading to the PlayStation 4 before other platforms. Even though the Xbox One and PC platforms are not listed, it seems highly unlikely they will be excluded from getting the game. PEGI has since taken down the listing for Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, so it is impossible to see it for yourselves anymore.
Although Activision has not yet officially announced Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, this rating from PEGI is the best sign yet that the game will actually be released. Given that a rating has already been provided, it looks like there’s a good chance that the game may release alongside this year’s currently unannounced Call of Duty game, which will launch in the Fall. Activision may also opt to only include it in certain editions of this year’s Call of Duty in an attempt to gain more sales as they did with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.
Back in 2016, a petition was launched by gamers to persuade Activision to remaster Modern Warfare 2. The petition gained over 200,000 signatures and also helped Modern Warfare 2 became one of the most voted games to be requested to come to Xbox One via backwards compatibility.
