SNES Classic Adding Instant Rewind

With just over a month to go before the release of the SNES classic, Nintendo has announced the retro console will come with some bonus features.

Just like the NES Classic that came out last year, you will be able to suspend and save your game at any point with the SNES Classic. A new feature that’s been added this year, however, is an instant rewind option.

It is the same feature that was added to the Rare Replay collection that came out back in 2015. The rewind feature will be available on all of the 21 games that come with the SNES. The instant rewind will let players scroll back through parts of the game they have just played, allowing you to cheat death (a handy tool for some of them unforgivable old school games), collect items they may have missed, or simply go back and replay a level.

The amount of time the rewind feature backtracks varies depending on the game according to Nintendo. RPGs like Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars will allow you to rewind a few minutes, while Super Mario World’s timing is about 40 seconds.

The SNES classic will be released on September 29th and will have 21 built-in games, including the special bonus addition Star Fox 2 which famously was never released during the SNES’s original release.
