Earlier today, the development group Toadman Interactive announced a game that claims to be a shooter inspired by the Dark Souls series. Accompanying this announcement was a trailer and some hints to the game’s features.
In a statement that was uploaded to the PlayStation Blog to accompany the game’s announcement, one of the game’s designers went into a little more detail about what the game actually was.
The game’s story is currently unclear and indeed will be fairly vague in the game’s release (likely a design choice that was inspired by Dark Souls). It has, however, been revealed that the player will take control of a “living weapon” that’s tasked with halting the Apocalypse and that the game’s writing team includes members from the writers behind The Witcher, Killzone: Shadow Fall and Battlefield 1. The game is set in a sci-fi world with both futuristic and fantasy elements, and the game will have the player travel across multiple worlds.
In terms of gameplay, Toadman Interactive has described the game as “far from a reflex shooter” and instead will require more mobility and dodges in the game’s close-to-medium range encounters. In addition to guns, screenshots do reveal the player will have access to some form of melee weapons, though to what capacity is currently unknown. Gameplay footage can likely be expected closer to release. For the time being, more hints and screenshots of the game’s combat can be found on its official website.
The game is currently set to release sometime in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam). The game’s price is currently unknown.
