Gamer Accidentally Fires Gun into Neighbour’s Apartment While Playing Call of Duty

When sitting down to play a game like Call of Duty, or any game for that matter, it’s probably not a good idea to sit with a loaded AR-15 rifle perched on your lap, as one overly enthusiastic COD gamer found out.

While playing Call of Duty, 21-year-old Aaron Curtis somehow accidentally fired his AR-15 rifle that was sat on his lap. Yep, you read that right. He was playing Call of Duty while having a loaded AR-15 on his lap. As reported by News Channel 5, the incident took place in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

It’s not clear how the gun was accidentally fired, although one can guess it may have happened with a sudden movement or jolt while playing. The round from the rifle ended up going through Curtis’s wall and entering his elderly neighbour’s apartment next door.

It’s thought that he may have been sitting with the gun to become immersed in the game as his on-screen character was equipped with a gun similar to the AR-15. We don’t know what Call of Duty game he was playing, although the recent Modern Warfare Remastered one could have been a possibility based on the rifle. Still, it’s an important lesson for anyone who would consider sitting with a loaded gun on their lap while playing a video game: You just shouldn’t do it.

As the police pointed out, it’s incredibly lucky that no one was hurt as an AR-15 round is capable of dealing a large amount of damage, and understandably the elderly neighbour, aged 75, was feeling very lucky to be alive after the incident. According to police, the bullet went low and very narrowly missed the neighbour’s dog who was described as being her best friend.

Aaron Curtis was charged by police with misdemeanour reckless endangerment following the incident.
