Could The Last of Us 2 Be Announced Before the End of the Year?

Who wouldn’t want to see The Last of Us 2? The good news is that the wait for official news regarding the sequel to 2013’s game of the year may be just around the corner. Rumours are circulating that Sony are planning on announcing The Last of Us 2 shortly with a possible reveal coming at PlayStation Experience 2016.

According to NeoGAF industry insider shinobi602, The Last of Us 2 will be confirmed and revealed to the world very shortly after he posted an image which had the words, “The Last of Us 2 confirmed”. It’s long been believed that The Last of Us 2 is in development over at Naughty Dog, as the studio has said before that their intentions are to make a sequel, but they have been busy with the release of Uncharted 4 and its DLC.

However, we may not have to wait long before we hear an announcement from Sony as shinobi responded to a user on NeoGAF who suggested that we’ll hear about The Last of Us 2 at E3 2017 by stating, “Maybe you dont have to wait that long.” If this is true, then we’ll get an announcement before next year’s E3, with some believing there’s a chance some news will come out of this year’s PlayStation Experience.

Although it’s a possibility, it would seem more likely that Naughty Dog announce its DLC plan for Uncharted 4 at PlayStation Experience 2016 rather than announcing The Last of Us 2. Generally, the PlayStation Experience event has been used to reveal smaller games as well as DLC instead of being the first place to announce some of the biggest games heading to Sony’s consoles.

That still doesn’t mean we won’t hear anything before the end of 2016 though, as Naughty Dog may announce The Last of Us 2 out of the blue, just like Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption 2 a few weeks ago.

We’ll have to sit tight and wait for an official announcement, but it looks like The Last of Us 2 is as good as confirmed, it’s just a case of waiting for the reveal trailer to be shown to the world.

If you loved The Last of Us, this is great news indeed.
