Fable Legends may start development again at an independent studio

After Microsoft decided to close down Fable developer Lionhead Studios, it looked like any hopes of seeing Fable Legends release went down with the studio. However according to a new report, it looks like there may still be hope that Fable Legends may be picked up be an independent studio and one day released.

According to MCV, they claim to have spoken to three sources at Lionhead Studios who have stated that staff are currently being asked whether or not they would like to continue working on Fable Legends or if they would rather accept the redundancy package they have been offered and call it a day.

However one of the sources went on to tell MCV that some Lionhead employees who are interested in working on Fable Legends still have proposed to open their own independent studio so that they can continue working on the game. As Microsoft own Lionhead and the Fable franchise, it would be their decision on whether or not to allow a newly formed independent studio to take over development of Fable Legends, however it could be an option they may consider considering the developers would have been former Lionhead employees before the closure, so who better to work on Fable Legends than the guys who were working on Fable Legends?

Microsoft didn’t wish to comment on the proposal of an indepedent studio taking over development however.

“We aren’t sharing additional details beyond that we have ceased development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees at Lionhead about our proposed closure of the studio as well,” a Microsoft spokesperson told MCV.
