Sony Says The Time Is Now For VR

The Game Developers Conference is scheduled to take place next week and the one big thing on everyone’s mind is Virtual Reality. One of Sony’s big hitters has opened up as said to have commented that now is in fact the right time for VR. Shawn Layden, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment America, discussed the potential of VR on the latest PlayStation Podcast and teased that Sony will make some announcements about PlayStation VR next week during GDC.

Price and release date are the biggest thing people want to know about but whether Sony will shed some light on those next week at GDC remains to be seen.

Shawn had this to say.

“It’s a perfect storm now for VR technology. It’s a concept that’s been kicking around for quite some time. Some of us remember Virtual Boy way back in the day and a lot of different companies have had a go at virtual reality technology. I think right now we have a combination of the necessary processing power and graphics power inside the machine. We have the display technology which can realize these images at a fidelity which looks natural, if you will. And we have the production technology to create a headset and a rig that is well-suited for the human head that won’t create a tiresome experience. I think now is the time for VR; its time has come,”

Some very optimistic words from the Sony Executive which brings hope to potential buyers.

The release of the PlayStation VR as well as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, VR is set to raise the bar in modern day video gaming and also movie watching. We at Gaming Respawn will be watching closely as announcements are made.
