The gaming scene is full of well-established franchises and exciting new titles that are extremely enjoyable. However, every now and then we are given some downright weird games that we hate to admit that we love. From the new to the old, here are the 8 weirdest games that actually got released:
Super 3D Noah’s Ark
Game developer Wisdom Tree makes Bible-themed games that help kids learn about important biblical events. These games almost always turn out strange, but perhaps the strangest is the 1994 MS-DOS game Super 3D Noah’s Ark. You play as Noah, roaming your famous Ark, shooting sleep-inducing food into the animals’ mouths. The game plays similarly to the early Wolfenstein games, but the violence is switched out to make for a more child-friendly title.
Developed by Coffee Stain Studios, Goat Simulator cuts you loose as a goat in an open-world to wreak havoc on the civilians. It already sounds weird, but it gets weirder when you realise that one of the goat’s main attacks is licking. Other than that, the player can unlock many different “mutators” for the goat, including but not limited to: Tall goat, Spider Goat, Rocket Powered Goat and many more. The game also contains a number of different paid DLCs that parody popular games and movies, like Payday and Star Wars. I don’t know about you, but I’ve goat no time for this nonsense.
Professional basketball player and internet meme Shaquille O’Neal is not someone you would usually put together with video games. That is unless you’re Delphine Software. It was in 1994 that we were given the 2D fighting game Shaq Fu that sees Shaq go into an alternate dimension to save a boy from an evil Mummy (the Egyptian kind, not the parent). Apparently, there was some sort of demand for a sequel for current generation consoles as Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, came out on June 5th, 2018, for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit
Any game based on a 90s sitcom is bound to be amazing. Oh, wait no, I meant the opposite. It was in November 1994 that the Super Nintendo was cursed with Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit, a 2D platformer developed by Absolute Entertainment. The player traverses through the levels using a nail gun, blowtorch and an energy wave producing chainsaw as weapons to fight dinosaurs, mummies and many more enemies as the player goes through the game’s four worlds. The game could probably have done with some (home) improvements of its own *rolls eyes*.
I Am Bread
Not everyone gets to live out their dreams, but thanks to I Am Bread, nothing changes. Arguably one of the weirdest indie titles around, I Am Bread sees you play as, you guessed it, a piece of bread. The main objective is trying to fulfill your sole purpose in life… getting to a toaster without being spoiled. The 2015 game was surprisingly well-received with a 7/10 on Steam. I would usually put a bread pun here, but a lot of people would find it stale (not sorry).
Octodad: Dadliest Catch
Any game with a pun in the title is definitely going to be a blast, and there is no better example to prove this than Octodad: Dadliest Catch. However fun the game might be, there is no doubting that it is definitely strange. An example of the strangeness the game contains is the fact that even though you play as a suit-wearing octopus, you still have a human family. Also, throughout the game, you evade a sushi chef who is desperate to cook you. Whenever the chef shows up, Octodad is no more “Mr. Rice Guy”.
A game full of dark humour, this strange title sees you being killed by a bottle of broccoli juice. Luckily, a hilariously hip interpretation of the Grim Reaper gives the player another chance as long as they can last a full day controlling every part of his body manually. The game is incredibly funny and ridiculously strange. I mean, it’s not fun for protagonist Samuel, he was rendered 8 types of dead. This game was also well received by critics, receiving a 9/10 on Steam.
And so, those were the 7 strangest games that we can’t believe were actually made. For more features, stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled for more amazingly unique features right here.
