Gran Turismo: Sport Drops Dynamic Weather and Time in Favour of FPS

Gran Turismo: Sport will not feature dynamic weather or changing day and night cycles during races in order to help boost framerate and performance, Polyphony Digital has revealed.

Dynamic weather and time were features that have been present in previous Gran Turismo racing games, however, their exclusion from GT: Sport has been made so that the overall framerate of the game will be increased as a result, making for a smoother racing experience. Although the time of day will not change during races, players will be able to set the time of day before the race begins, with morning, night, dawn, and dusk races a few of the options on offer.

Equally, players will also be able to set the weather conditions for the race beforehand. So, while there will be no weather or time of day changes during the race, players will at least be able to set these options before the race.

“We opted to not have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the framerate and the quality of the image during the race,” said CEO of Polypgony Digital Kazunori Yamauchi who was speaking in an interview with GTPlanet. “So the user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you’ll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on.”

Gran Turismo: Sport releases on PlayStation 4 on November 18th.
