Play Star Wars Battlefront first on Xbox One

EA Access subscribers will have exclusive access to Battlefront before anyone else, Phil Spencer has said on Twitter. EA Access is currently only available on Xbox One after Sony decided not to offer it.

EA Access is a subscription service that costs £3.99/month or £19.99/year. It offers exclusive beta’s, timed trials of new games and unlimited access to the Vault (which includes games such as FIFA, Madden and Battlefield). Subscription to the service also gives you a small discount on EA games bought on the Xbox Store.

No details have been released on just how long this exclusivity will last, but one would expect it to be around a week. EA Access already offers great value for anyone interested in EA games and who owns an Xbox One, and this appears to be just be the icing on the cake.

However you have to scratch your head about just why they are releasing it earlier. If they release it in a bad state (as DICE’s previous games have been) then it will surely affect day one sales. If they release it in a satisfactory state then why wouldn’t they just release it to everyone at that time?

Confirmation also wasn’t given as to just what would be playable. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if it would be a stripped down version of the game and this may just be treated similarly to a beta.

So what do you think? Is it the icing on the cake for subscribers? Or something more sinister?
