Xbox 360 Production Has Ended

We are gathered here today as we say farewell to a gaming legend. Yes, today marks the final day of the Xbox 360.

Last generation’s behemoth gave birth to new exclusive IPs and breathed new life into old ones. One IP that originated on Microsoft’s flagship console was the Gears of War series. A series highly acclaimed and praised for its creation of the cover based shooting style of gameplay that has become a staple of today’s gaming.

“Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft” says Xbox Head, Phil Spencer. “And while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us which is why we’ve made the decision to stop the production of the Xbox 360.”

There is still life in the old dog yet though, as he goes on to say “we will still continue to sell existing inventory of Xbox 360 consoles with availability varying by country.”

The Xbox Live service and marketplace will still be fully operational for the foreseeable future, and Xbox One owners will still be able to play backwards compatible games on their consoles.

From all of us here at Gaming Respawn, goodbye old friend.
