Rumour: Red Dead Redemption Remake Is Reportedly in Development

Rumours have surfaced from Reddit that the cult-classic Red Read Redemption from Rockstar Games is being remade. This rumour has surfaced on Reddit, and it says that Rockstar is currently working on a remake for Red Dead Redemption that is rumoured to release late 2020 or early 2021. This timeline might suggest that it is scheduled to release for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, so we would assume it will leverage that technology to hit 4K resolution and other technical improvements.

The user responsible for the rumour states that this information comes courtesy of a source working on Red Dead Redemption II DLC. That story DLC is scheduled for a mid 2020 release and is reportedly “alien-centered”. Is anyone else getting Cowboys & Aliens vibes? This is similar to the original Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare DLC that featured zombies.

Here’s the rumour in full:

Red Dead Redemption remastered is not actually a remaster, it’s a remake. All the new features from the new game are going to be imported into RDR 1 plus the map is getting expanded a bit to make it more vast (rdr 2 map is not apart of this because it is not needed in the story, it’s mostly just making the desert bigger.) Rob has came back and recorded new lines of dialogue to help connect the two stories (References to Arthur and events of rdr 2 naturally) it was originally slated for the 10 year anniversary of RDR 1 but bugs have hindered the development a bit so they’ve shifted 2/3 of the Red Dead Online team to the Remake

For a quick recap on Red Dead Redemption, it is set in America during the early 1900s, and the era of the cowboy is coming to an end. When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is sent across the American frontier to help bring the rule of law. Experience intense gun battles, dramatic train robberies, bounty hunting and duels during a time of violent change. Red Dead Redemption is an epic battle for survival in a beautiful open world as John Marston struggles to bury his blood-stained past, one man at a time.

Red Dead Redemtion launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2010. Since its release, the game has gone on to sell over 14 million copies, making it a hugely successful game for Rockstar. Since the sequel sold over 23 million, it is clear that gamers are hungry for Red Dead Redemption’s Western action.

The original is currently playable on the Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility. In fact, on Microsoft’s flagship system, the Xbox One X, you can enjoy the original Red Dead Redemption upscaled to 4K resolution – which represents a 9x resolution boost. However, a fully-developed remake could simply be stunning with the technology available now compared to what was available to developers back in the Xbox 360/PS3 era. We definitely hope this rumour turns out to be true.
