Assassin’s Creed has been one of the longest running gaming franchises this generation and the previous one has ever seen, with a new game being released every year since 2009.
However, the current rumour doing the rounds is that Ubisoft will not be releasing an Assassin’s Creed game in 2016 and will instead wait a year before releasing the next installment in the series in 2017. The reason for skipping a year is supposedly to allow the developers enough time to completely revamp the series.
Apparently, a Ubisoft developer made a post on the popular website 4chan, as spotted by Autoomobile, stating that the series would be skipping a year. Not only that, the post also stated that the next game would be set in Egypt and will have a “Witcher feel” to it.
The post made by the anonymous developer” reads as follows:
“Egypt. There won’t be an AC in 2016. You may screencap this and refer to it when nothing is shown in E3 2016. You’ll have to wait until 2017 for it. The reason: It will be a complete revamp of the series. The game is going for a Witcher feel, with player progression, freeform combat system. Horse is back, and boats too. It s made by the Black Flag team. You may leave any question you want answered.”
Nothing has been confirmed yet by Ubisoft, however 4chan tends to be an unreliable source for rumours. Having said that, this rumour does sound believable and it would certainly make sense for Ubisoft to spend more time revamping a series which has started to become stale and lacking originality.
Take this rumour with a pinch of salt but don’t be surprised if this one turns out to be true.
