Games4EU Launches Campaign to Highlight Negative Impact of Brexit on UK Games Industry

Anti-Brexit group Games4EU has launched its campaign to highlight what it believes to be the negative impact Brexit will have on the UK video games industry.

The campaign group aims to stop Brexit “before it’s game over” and is leading the UK video game industry’s fight to stay in the EU. According to Ukie, 80% of people working in the games industry voted to remain in the EU, and Games4EU wants to help them campaign against a hard or no deal Brexit.

In their own words, the group believes that “remaining in the EU (or as closely tied to it as possible) is the best outcome both economically and culturally” for UK video games and the future.

On their website, Games4EU list several reasons for why they strongly believe that Brexit is damaging for the UK games industry, such as reduced access to talent, increased business costs and the potential loss of jobs.

One of their main objectives is to ensure continued open access to international talent, trade & consumers, which it says is critical to success.

The group’s main aims are:

    • Support peaceful, meaningful action to remain within the EU.

    • Become an activism and discussion platform for Pro EU video games professionals and gamers.

    • Demonstrate the harm that Brexit will do to our sector.

    • Contribute to the wider movement to stop, or limit the damage, of a hard or no deal Brexit.
