Nioh Respawn: Blade of the Noob- Part 9

Are you a gamer who has an interest in playing a Souls-Type game but have avoided trying one for fear of getting your virtual ass handed to you over and over, leading to you rage quitting and questioning why you play games to begin with? I’ve been there. But what if I told you that playing and beating a Souls-Type game is not the impossible task that you may have been led to believe it is? Join me as I share my experiences and gameplay footage of the many boss battles I fought my way through in Nioh; you might even learn a thing or two, like how to properly beat some of these bosses after seeing them smack me around a bit. Welcome to Nioh Respawn: Blade of the Noob, and enjoy yourselves.

Boss #25: Obsidian Samurai

I wasn’t really expecting too much from the Obsidian Samurai. I figured he was just another human enemy I could royally f@#k up without too much trouble or at least defeat him in one go after a moderate amount of effort. Turns out he was closer to the latter. This guy was a bit tougher and more impressive than I expected though. And I certainly respected his choice of weaponry: an axe and a sword, just like me. The Obsidian Samurai had some pretty flashy moves, and for a big guy he could move around relatively quickly, but for the most part his attacks were rather easy to avoid or block. In the end, he was just another addition to my “got his ass kicked by me in one attempt” list.

Boss #26: Otani Yoshitsugu

Apparently, this guy survived his last encounter with William. Not much I can really say about this rematch; it was basically exactly the same as my first battle with Otani Yoshitsugu, and since I fought him not too long beforehand, his movesets were mostly still familiar to me. As you will see, it didn’t take too long for me to put him down again in just one attempt.

Boss #27: Oda Nobunaga

I have now reached the (supposedly) final main mission in Nioh. After fighting a number of powerful enemies, followed by extra boss battles against previous monster enemies (namely an Onryoki, a Nue, a Joro-Gumo, and a Hino-enma), I then found myself battling the first real boss in this mission: Oda Nobunaga. Given the immense level of importance that is normally placed on Nobunaga in many other Japanese-themed video games (Onimusha comes to mind), I was expecting this battle to be quite the challenge….the frustrating kind of challenge that would require multiple attempts. I mean, this guy kicked my ass a number of times in the classic PS2 titles Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny and Onimusha 3: Demon Siege. Needless to say, I was expecting him to bring his A game in my first Souls-Type game. As it turns out, I’m either better than I thought I was, or perhaps these later bosses are just not that tough. I’m going to assume that the former theory is correct; I don’t care if I’m being delusional, I’m sticking with that belief.

Nobunaga is a moderately tough boss with some swift sword attacks, but his most troublesome (and annoying) ability lies in his Guardian Spirit. Not only can he use his Guardian Spirit to activate his Living Weapon power multiple times, but he can also switch between all the main elements for his Living Weapon with each activation: fire, water, lightning, wind, and earth. This makes Nobunaga very versatile with his plethora of element-based abilities and skills. However, during those rare moments where he doesn’t have his Living Weapon activated, he’s actually rather easy to deal with, as you will see when I, once again, win this boss battle in one go. It can’t be just luck, right? This has to be proof that I’m at least moderately good at this shit.

That’s three more bosses taken down by yours truly in one go, and one of them is one of the final bosses in the game. I seriously never thought I’d do so well at this game, not in a million years. And yes, while I defeated Oda Nobunaga, I still had to go after that pasty-faced dipshit Kelley, and as you saw at the end of the video above, he once again ran away like the little sissy he has always been. Join us next Friday and find out if I will finally be able to take that bastard out at long last……and if there are perhaps other bosses besides him that I still have to fight before beating the final mission.
