Assassin’s Creed: Empire Set for October 2017 Release According to Retailer Listing

A listing for Assassin’s Creed: Empire has appeared on a Swiss retailer’s website and points to an October 2017 release for Ubisoft’s next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

The swiss retailer, ALCOM, states that the game is due to release in October and will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The listing was originally spotted by Reddit, with another listing by retailer World of Games also being spotted advertising Assassin’s Creed: Empire for a release in the fourth quarter of 2017.

No other details about the game were included in the listing, but it backs up rumours that have been circulating for the last year that the next Assassin’s Creed game would be called Empire and set in Egypt.

As Ubisoft have tended to release the latest Assassin’s Creed game in October or November, it looks likely that this date listed by World of Games, while probably being right on the money, is just merely a placeholder for the time being. However, what is interesting is that it pretty much confirms that Empire will be the next game in the series.

Last month an image that was said to be from Assassin’s Creed: Empire was leaked online which showed a character standing in a stone doorway which fitted into the Egypt theme. Speculation surrounding Empire was also boosted following the release of Watch Dogs 2 last year which included a conversation between two NPCs who were discussing the leak of a game trailer.

“I can assure you, there’s no way the trailer’s getting out,” one NPC can be heard saying to his boss over the phone.

“Can you? Can you assure me? After what happened with Unity, Syndicate, Osiris?”, the boss replies.

Of course, Unity and Syndicate have been the last two Assassin’s Creed games. For anyone unfamiliar with Osiris, in Egyptian mythology he is the God of the Underworld. See the potential connection there to Empire?

Ubisoft announced in 2015 that the franchise would be taking a break in 2016 following the release of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, with Watch Dogs 2 releasing in fall 2016 in place of the annual Assassin’s Creed instalment. We likely won’t hear anything official from Ubisoft until E3 in June; however, all the signs so far point to Assassin’s Creed: Empire being the next game and will take place in Egypt.
