Capcom Believe Resident Evil 7 Will Sell 4 Million Copies on Day One

Capcom are confident that Resident Evil 7 will be a big hit when it releases with the company believing that Resident Evil 7 will sell four million copies on Day One.

Last month Capcom revealed that they thought that 4 millon copies of Resident Evil 7 would be sold around launch, although it seems they are even more confident now that the game will be a huge success with their latest estimate being for that number to be sold just on day one.

Speaking to MCV, Capcom EMEA Marketing Director Antoine Molant stated, “Commercially, [Resident Evil 7] is probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines.”

“Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great,” he added. “Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there.

“All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it’s from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.”

Capcom’s confidence may be influenced by pre-order numbers of Resident Evil 7, which are said to be very good with them being above what Capcom were expecting.

“To be very frank, they’re very good,” said Molant. “Keeping in mind the real pre-order campaign started a week ago with the Steelbook announcement and some of the Collectors’ Edition announcement… before doing that, they were quite above what we were expecting. We’ve got the previews coming out and some more launching in December. On that front, we’re very happy.”

If previous sales of Resident Evil games are anything to go, Capcom’s day one estimates for Resident Evil 7 appear to be ambitious. During its lifetime, Resident Evil 5 sold 7.1 million units, for example, with Resident Evil 6 performing slightly worse, shifting around 6.6 million units.

Resident Evil 7 releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC on January 24th.
