Super Mario fans rejoice, as it was just announced today that Super Mario Run will be released on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, December 15th. The game will set you back $9.99/£7.99 but will give access to the entire game including three different modes. There is also a free mode that will let you try out a limited version before buying the title.
Each Apple device will need to be running iOS 8.0 and above to play Super Mario Run, and the title supports English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian and traditional Chinese language options.
Super Mario Run is another game in the endless runner genre, allowing you to play with ease as you only need one hand. Details from the official Super Mario Run website state that you just press once to jump and hold the press to jump higher. In traditional Super Mario fashion, you will also collect coins and jump on the heads of your pesky enemies all while trying to reach the finishing flagpole.
Super Mario Run was debuted on stage during an Apple press conference by Shigeru Miyamoto, who played a part in the game’s design.
At the conference Miyamoto said “that Mario would travel across classic stages to collect as many coins as possible in a set time limit. Tapping makes him jump, and the entire game is playable with just one hand.” There are several worlds to explore in the game; the demo showed a menu screen with six worlds. Super Mario Run will also include a multiplayer mode that will allow you to race against your friends.
Initially the game launches in 151 regions and countries, with Korea not receiving a version of the title until 2017. Sadly, nothing has been confirmed regarding a potential Android launch.
Super Mario Run will launch on December 15th, and more details can be found on the official website here.
