Sales of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are down nearly 50% on last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III, data from Chart-Track has revealed.
Infinite Warfare did enter the UK charts at No.1; however, Activision will be disappointed that physical sales of the game are down 48.4% on Black Ops III, despite coming bundled with Modern Warfare Remastered which was expected to help maintain sales. 55% of physical sales were for the PS4 version with Xbox One taking a 45% share.
One of the reasons why physical sales may be down could be because Infinite Warfare didn’t ship on last-gen consoles such as PS3 and Xbox 360. Black Ops III was released on both consoles, although the loss of last-gen sales appears to be small with sales of Infinite Warfare still being down 43.6% when you compare just PS4 and Xbox One sales.
Activision did say last week that they anticipated sales of Infinite Warfare to be less than Black Ops III, although they stated that was because it was a new sub-brand so would, therefore, sell less than the established and extremely popular Black Ops brand.
However, there’s no denying that Infinite Warfare has come in for a lot of criticism from gamers since it was announced earlier in the year. The trailer for Infinite Warfare became the most down voted trailer on YouTube with many gamers taking a stab at Activision for developing Infinite Warfare whilst EA and DICE were working on Battlefield 1, a game that has been positively received and welcomed with open arms by the gaming industry.
Despite selling less than Black Ops III, Infinite Warfare has still been a huge success, nonetheless. Even though Call of Duty lost half of its sales this year, Infinite Warfare is the second biggest launch in the UK this year, trailing only FIFA 17.
