Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered certainly seems to be anticipated a lot more than Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but the latest news from Activision has angered gamers who are anticipating the game’s release. In order to play Modern Warfare Remastered, the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disc will need to be inserted into your console, despite the remaster being a digital download.
A new Modern Warfare Remastered page has appeared on the Call of Duty website which revealed the news, as spotted by Charlie Intel. On the page, Activision state, “Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered)”.
This is bad news for anyone who intended on buying Infinite Warfare just to play Modern Warfare Remastered, as it means that you will no longer be able to download the game and sell your copy of Infinite Warfare since you’ll now need the same disc to play Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered.
Gamers are already unhappy at Activision’s decision to not sell the remaster separately, and the publisher has gone one step further in annoying gamers by only including it in the Legacy, Legacy Pro, or Digital Deluxe Editions of Infinite Warfare. That means that in order to play Modern Warfare Remastered, you’ll need to pay extra. The standard edition of Infinite Warfare will not come with a copy.
It seems pretty clear at this point that Activision are not willing to sell the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered game on its own, probably through fear that sales of Infinite Warfare would suffer. It would be a surprise though if the remaster was not sold separately once sales of Infinite Warfare have died down.
Of course, if you buy your copy of Infinite Warfare digitally, you won’t need a disc, obviously.

I’m with you, I think they’ll sell it on its own eventually once Infinite sales die down. I’m willing to be patient
