Sony sells 25.3 million PS4 consoles since launch

25.3 million PS4 consoles have been sold worldwide since the launch of Sony’s next-gen console back in November 2013.

The PS4 is also performing better this year compared to last year, with sales up by 11% for April-June 2015 compared to the same time period last year, with 3 million consoles being sold compared to 2.7 million.

In the same time period, Microsoft only managed to sell 1.4 million units, however that was taking into account sales of both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The fact that Microsoft combines both platforms sales suggests the fact that the Xbox One may not be performing well enough to stand up by itself. It’s interesting how Sony don’t include PS3 sales in their figures like Microsoft do with the 360, although sales of their last-gen console are expected to be down year-on-year.

Sony had predicted that it would sale 16 million PS4 consoles this year, however as a result of its sales success they have increased that projection by 500,000 units, taking their projection to 16.5 million.

Microsoft haven’t revealed any sales figures for the Xbox One since November 2014 when the console had sold roughly 10 million units so we can’t say for sure how much better the PS4 is selling compared to the Xbox One. The PS4 has consistently outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One though since they both launched in 2013.
