Overwatch Has Over 7 Million Registered Players, One of Blizzard’s Most Successful Global Game Launches

Overwatch launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC less than two weeks ago on May 24th, and in that time over 7 million people have registered accounts for Blizzard’s multiplayer first-person shooter. As a result, it has become one of Blizzard’s most successful global game launches of all time.

The beta for Overwatch had 9.7 million registered players, however, the beta was free to play making Overwatch‘s current registered players figures mighty impressive. The number of registered players isn’t directly the number of copies sold though as multiple accounts can be tied to one copy of the game.

Blizzard has also revealed that Overwatch players have been playing the game for more than 119 million hours across all platforms combined.

“Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and support for Overwatch – from Blizzard gamers, FPS fans, and people who’d never picked up a game like this before – and we’re very grateful for everyone’s incredible passion and enthusiasm,” said Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime.

“We poured a lot of effort into creating a game – and a new universe – that anyone could enjoy. We’re ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we’re looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come.”
