It’s been a bumpy launch for the Oculus Rift since the first headsets began to ship to pre-order customers last week. An “unexpected component shortage” has meant that there have been delays in getting the Oculus Rift shipped to customers who were early backers of the virtual reality headset.
This component shortage has led to some customers not receiving their Oculus Rift on time with other customers now not being guaranteed to receive theirs on the dates estimated for them. As compensation for the shipping delays, Oculus have announced that they will be covering all shipping and handling costs for any orders that were placed before 1st April. Oculus have also said that everyone should know the status of their order by Tuesday, April 12.
“We know you’re anxious to receive your Oculus Rift, and apologise for not updating your order status sooner,” read an email sent to customers. “We’ve been working through an unexpected component shortage, and unfortunately, that issue has impacted the original shipping estimates for some early customers.”
“We’re working hard to get up-to-date ship windows, and you should expect to see your order status updated on oculus.com by Tuesday, April 12. Although many Rifts will be arriving on schedule and in line with original estimates.”
While the email read that orders placed on April 1 would have shipping and handling costs covered, Oculus Reddit mod TheTwistgibber clarified on Reddit by stating, “If you have an order from the launch of pre-orders on January 6th through the end of day on April 1st (Pacific Time), we’re footing the bill for shipping, globally. That’s it. You’re welcome.”
