New version of Minecraft heading to Windows 10

A new version of Minecraft, named Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, will be launching alongside Microsoft’s new Operating System Windows 10 when it becomes available on July 29, Mojang has announced.

The new version of the game will launch in beta and will evolve over time with players feedback, just like the original Minecraft did all those years ago.

“Just like the first release of Minecraft all those years ago, this version will develop and evolve over time with the help of your feedback. That’s why it has “Beta” in the title – because it’s not quite finished, and will become even more fun over time, stated Owen Hill,
Mojang’s Chief Word Officer.

Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition will be free to the 20million plus players who have purchased Minecraft on PC and will be able to download the game from the Windows 10 store at no charge. For those who don’t own the PC version but wish to purchase Minecraft via the Windows 10 store will have to pay $10, with all future updates available for free.

So what makes this new version of Minecraft worth your time? Well according to Mojang it will include lots of pocket edition features not present in the PC version which players may notice, as well giving players the chance to evolve this new version of Minecraft via their feedback. Oh and here is some new features included in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition:

  • Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer or with your Xbox Live friends online.
  • Play online and local multiplayer with other Pocket Edition players thanks to a free update, due to arrive soon after launch.
  • Multiple control schemes! Switch between controller, touch, and keyboard controls with little to no effort!
  • Record and share gameplay highlights with built-in GameDVR.
  • Help shape the future of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta with our built player feedback mechanisms!
  • Chickens, zombies, pigs, boats, armed skeletons, potatoes, zombies, baby squids, enchantment tables, villagers, naked sheep, iron golems, potions, ghasts, pickaxes, carrots, and all the weird and wonderful goodness you’ve come to expect from Minecraft.
