Xbox One sales around 19 million according to EA

It’s been over a year since Microsoft last shared sales figures with regards to the Xbox One but thanks to EA, we now have a pretty good estimate of roughly how many consoles Microsoft has managed to sell.

During a financial call last night, EA stated that they believed their combined console install base was 55 million. That means that so far, EA believes 55 million PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones have been sold since they launched back in November 2013. Whereas Microsoft has remained silent when it comes to how many consoles they’ve sold, Sony have been more than happy to release figures and as a result, we can work out how many Xbox Ones have roughly been sold if we go by EA’s statement.

Sony recently revealed that 35.9 million PS4 consoles have been sold since 2013, which means that the Xbox One has sold around 19 million consoles if we assume that 55 million PS4 and Xbox One consoles have been sold altogether.

“The console purchases are up through the end of calendar year ’15, our estimate is 55 million units out there which has exceeded virtually everyone’s forecast for the year and now almost 50% higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very-very positive,” said EA CFO Blake Jorgensen during last night’s financial call.

However despite the PlayStation 4 blowing the Xbox One out of the water when it comes to sales, Microsoft would still consider the Xbox One a great success having revealed that sales for the Xbox One are up compared to sales of the Xbox 360 during the same period of its life cycle. Unfortunately for Microsoft, Sony have really pulled it out of the bag this generation.

Having said, Microsoft did manage to sell more Xbox Ones in 2015 than in 2014, although they made less money as the console was being sold at a cheaper price.
