Galactic Civilizations III: Mercenaries Expansion releasing next month

A new expansion will be released next month for Stardock’s popular 4X space strategy game Galactic Civilizations III, the developer has announced. The expansion is called Mercenaries and will introduce a host of new features and content to the game.

Galactic Civilizations III: Mercenaries will add an all-new campaign to the game for players to play along with introducing new races, Galactic Bazaars and the ability to recruit new elite units. The addition of Galactic Bazaars will allow players to visit them to hire mercenaries to help players expand their civilization throughout the galaxy, with there being over 70 unique mercenary ships available.

“Each mercenary sets their own hiring price in terms of money and resource,” said Paul Boyer, Lead Designer of Galactic Civilizations III. “Because there are a finite number of mercenaries, each civilization is competing for their services. When one is hired by one civilization, it is no longer available to the others.”

The expansion will also add two new factions to the game,  the Arceans and the Torians, both of which have their own unique traits, abilities and tech trees. The Arceans are an “ancient and honorable civilization of warriors” while the Torians are an “aquatic species seeking to escape the slavery of the Drengin.”

The Torians will take center stage during the Galactic Civilizations III: Mercenaries campaign which their escape from the enslavement of Drengin being players may objective.

A free update for all owners of Galactic Civilizations III will also be released alongside the launch of the Mercenaries expansion.

You can grab Galactic Civilizations III: Mercenaries on February 18, 2016 for $19.99.
