New Mafia Game Teased on Twitter

A new Mafia game is rumoured to be in the works following speculation sparked by the franchise’s official Twitter account, which has put out three one-word tweets regarding the core values that make up any Mafia game.

The Twitter account had remained inactive since August 24th, 2018 when it Tweeted about Mafia III being free to PlayStation Plus members for a limited time. However,  new tweets have been posted on May 10th, May 11th and now May 12th. The tweets below would seem to suggest that a brand new game or an upcoming remastered release is on the horizon.

Last month, rumours surfaced that Mafia II and Mafia III were both going to be remastered after a Korean rating board registered two games titled “Mafia II: Definitive Edition” and “Mafia III: Definitive Edition”. Both listings were for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game.

Neither Hangar 13 nor Take-Two Interactive have confirmed whether or not the rating listings are genuine, but it would make sense for a future release of a Mafia game to be in the pipelines given that the Twitter account has abruptly come out of hibernation.

It’s been over three years since the release of Mafia III on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game was generally liked but failed to capture the same charm that made the original Mafia game, as well as Mafia II, much loved by fans. A remastered version of Mafia II would definitely prove to be popular with fans of the franchise though.
